Shiner Bock

Shiner Bock.

Spoetzl was founded in 1909 by brewer Kosmas Spoetzl who trained at a brewmaster school in Germany before immigrating to Canada and later to San Antonio where he co-leased a building with Oswald Petzold and started the K. Spoetzel Brewery. After fighting through prohibition and surviving the addition of several large beer-plants in Texas, such as Anheuser-Busch, Spoetzl was Bought by The Gambrinus Company in 1989 and incorporated as Shiner Brewing Company. Jimmy Mauric is now head Brew-master.

Shiner Bock is, well a Bock obviously, it has a dark brownish caramel color and pours with a light beige head that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing. It has a bit of a metallicy taste but not an unpleasent one. There is also a sweet malty caramel type taste and smell and also a light nutty taste.

I’m a shiner fan and as far as I’ve seen you either are or aren’t. It’s smooth and drinkable and a good beer for general hanging out.

I also found this awesome link:

At some point I need to make the short hour 1/2  journey to Shiner, Texas and take a tour. It will be well worth it.
